Helmut Newton preferred natural lighting, working absent a studio environment because he liked the challenge. The practice was also conducive to creating unique visuals. I’m inspired by the iconic fashion and glamour photographers such as Newton, Avedon, and Penn. For as long as I can remember I’ve been allured by the fashion and entertainment business; it was positively provocative, and it gave me further permission to imagine.
I use both digital and analogue methods for fashion, fine art, and portrait photography. I prefer a Leica rangefinder camera because of its simplicity which makes the camera all but get out of the way. The process helps me remain present and connected in the moment and it encourages me to previsualize the image before it’s clicked.
